In the Rosa Parks Library & Museum Children’s Wing, visitors go back in time on the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine. Visitors are transported through time from the early 1800s to the “Jim Crow” era observing scenes of segregation and social and legal challenges made by individuals like Harriet Tubman, Dred Scott and Homer Plessy. Open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.

Discovery Village Park in Old Alabama Town provides a great place for children of all ages to play. The Jr. League of Montgomery helped build the science-based park for the community to enjoy. The park offers a ‘Tot-Land’ for children ages 2-5, which has appropriately sized playhouses and equipment for even the smallest children to enjoy. Admission is FREE.
MOOseum201 S. Bainbridge Street | (334) 265-1867 The MOOseum was developed by the Alabama Cattleman’s Association. It offers a fun, interactive way for people of all ages to learn about Alabama's $2 billion dollar beef cattle industry. It features a variety of interactive displays focusted on care and nutrituion as well as hands on learning exhibits. The MOOseum is open Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - noon and 1:00 p.m. - 4 p.m. Admission is FREE.
Grandma’s Attic 624 Washington Avenue | (334) 242-4435 The Alabama Department of Archives and History offers a hands-on gallery on the second floor, giving children a chance to experience Alabama’s past in an interactive environment. Children can dress up in clothes from an earlier time period and play with objects from the education collection. The Archives is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Admission is FREE.
Splash Pad at Riverwalk Amphitheatre 355 Coosa Street | (334) 241-2100 (at the end of Coosa Street to the River) Located at Riverwalk Amphitheatre Park in downtown Montgomery, the splash pad offers a large play area with shooting water fountains – fun for anyone to enjoy. The park is open everyday until 7 p.m. Admission is FREE.
W.A. Gayle Planetarium 1010 Forest Avenue | (334) 241-4799 The W.A. Gayle Planetarium features over 200 theater-style seats and is one of the largest planetariums between Atlanta and New Orleans. Each month the planetarium features a different show. To find the most current show schedule, become a fan of the W.A. Gayle Planetarium on Facebook. Showtimes are Monday – Thursday at 3:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Doors open fifteen minutes before show time. Admission is $4, children four and under are admitted free.
ARTWORKS Gallery Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts One Museum Drive | (334) 240-4333 While this activity is not downtown, we would be remiss not to include it. ARTWORKS is specifically geared for children and contains over 40 interactive exhibits for exploring art. Visitors are encouraged to touch the displays and explore computers with art-related software. The gallery features a mezzanine with an assortment of books, games and puzzles. Open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is FREE.
