 MAX members April and Benny Tiller needed more room in their home for their growing family. With the arrival of their new baby boy, the Tillers felt overcrowded in their home and had no room for a nursery.
The solution was to convert the family's office into the nursery, while building a new addition to their home. The new room would create not only much-needed office space, but a great play area for the children and their toys.
"We decided to extend our patio and close it in as a room. We had to have this extra space. We were maxed out with just our daughter and had nowhere else to go. Extending the patio was our only option," says April.
With family close by and having grown up in the same area, the Tillers did not consider moving into a larger home. The plan was to remodel.
Financing the Project
While the Tillers had the perfect plan in mind, finding the right financial institution to help them finance their remodeling plan became a nightmare. After contacting two other financial institutions in the area and having trouble getting personal attention and working out the finer details, the Tillers thought they had come to a dead-end. April comments, "It was a painful process trying to get something as easy as a refinance for a $20,000 addition. It just seemed that nobody understood how badly we needed this addition … that is until we finally went to MAX."
Benny had been a MAX member since high school, and suggested that they contact MAX to see what would happen.

After a quick trip to MAX, Benny called his wife to let her know that everything had worked out with refinancing through MAX, and that the papers would be ready to sign the very next day. "Benny was literally only gone for 20 minutes before he called to tell me everything was taken care of. I remember saying 'You have to be kidding me!' After my bank said they couldn't do anything for us, I really didn't think we were going to be able to get our extra room, but MAX made it possible," says April.
After just a few short months of renovation, the Tillers' addition to their home was complete. Their new space includes more than 230 square feet and plenty of room for their home office and a play area for the children.
