local-beekeeper-ffultonLocal Beekeeper, Fred Fulton MAX member and beekeeper, Fred Fulton, has been providing the River Region with honey for over 36 years. Currently, Fulton only keeps three hives in his backyard, but at times over his honey career, he has had as many as 106 beehives.

Mr. Fulton started keeping bees after he retired from the Army. He learned in the 1940s that bees could help double the production of his garden by helping pollinate his different crops and plants.

Fulton knows just about everything there is to know about bees and the benefits of their sweet nectar. “Honey is full of natural vitamins and minerals. Sugar gives you nothing, but honey stays with you,” Fulton says. “It is good both internally and externally. Raw local honey contains the pollen that can help treat allergies. Honey can even be used over a burn or cut. It is a natural antiseptic and helps seal the skin” he says.
